VBS Summer 2012!!

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Vacation Bible School provides an opportunity to not only minister to the children at both Fifth & Plymouth Heights CRC church, but it allows us to reach into the community as well. Last year, over two thirds of the 120 children who participated were non Fifth kids!  At Sky VBS, kids imagine what it would be like to bounce among the clouds, soar with eagles, and reach for the stars.  Start soaring now - register here to be a part of this Sky VBS!  This journey will change kids forever. Each day, children will see how much God loves people by participating in many activities that help their faith flow into real life.  If you would like to become a volunteer or donate items click here.  If you have any questions, please e-mail Krista Batdorff or call the church office at 245-9247.

Did You know?

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Hey friends and family!

We continue to add more features to this new website, and want to make sure you can use it as easily as possible.

One of our newest features is a "search" bar at the top of the website. It might be obvious, but here, you can search

for something you read in another news article, specific sermons, events and so on. As an example, I typed in the

word, "disciple" in the search bar, and here (click) is the result!

More features are coming soon, including a discussion board where you will be able to discuss implications of recent

sermons, submit prayer requests, post event ideas, if you own a business you can put up your services for all of us

to utilize and more!

We are also going to be launching a "Members" log-in page that will co-incide with our new photo directory

(see announcement). Here, you'll be able to create a username and password and find an online version of the new

directory, and even more features!

We are also revamping the sermon media files so you can sync them via Itunes and put them on your Ipod's (or other

mp3 players). If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact our website director, Chad Farrand

Church Photo Directory 2012

We are beginning the process of updating our photo directory. The times and dates will appear on the front page of

our website. Based on availability of our photographers, we will have times for you to get your pictures taken before

and after worship services. If you'd like to sign up for a time slot, please click the link below.

Blessings to you!

Grapple Question: Is it EVER OK to Lie?
Students Learn: God Rewards Those Who Act on Faith
Dig Into the Bible: Joshua 2:1-14

Next Sunday treat: Quinn Batdorff

CONNECTING IT THROUGH THE WEEK
Is it ever OK to lie? Have a family discussion about these situations:

• Is it OK to lie to a friend to keep a surprise party a secret?
• Is it OK for undercover police officers to lie about their identities?
• Is it OK for parents to tell their children that Santa and the Easter Bunny are real?
• Is it OK to lie about liking someone’s cooking or clothes to avoid hurting the person’s feelings?

Talk about the possible outcomes or consequences that could result from these lies. Take a family vote and decide if it would be OK to lie in those circumstances. Then read Joshua 2:1-24, and decide if you think it was OK for Rahab to lie in her sticky situation.

CONNECTING IT THROUGH THE WEEK
Have you ever been really offended by something someone said but never got a chance to tell the person how the words hurt you? Even though many people are hard to get along with, the Bible tells us to treat others the way we want to be treated. More easily said than done, huh? Talk to your teenager about a time you went out of your way to love a difficult person. How did that feel? Hard? Satisfying? Healing? Even though we don’t deserve it, God still loves and accepts us.

Weekly Grapple Connection

Grapple Question: What if God Says No?
Students Learn: God Knows What I Need
Dig Into the Bible: 2 Corinthians 12:1-10

Next Sunday treat: Lydia Sprik

*****
CONNECTING IT THROUGH THE WEEK
It’s pretty disappointing for teenagers when they really want something but don’t
get their way. (Hey, that’s still hard for most adults!) As a parent, you have to tell
your kids no sometimes—especially if it’s for their physical or emotional safety.
Even if your junior higher becomes upset, you know that you’re looking out for his
or her best interest.

God also has our best interest in mind. God can see the big picture and always
makes the right decision that will help us grow in our faith. Share with your
teenager a time that God didn’t answer a prayer the way you’d hoped—and how
you grew from that experience.

THIS WEEK @ JHaF

Being that this week is Valentine’s Day, we will be spending time helping the students think through the relational and emotional implications of how they act with the opposite sex. Please know that this is NOT a sex talk! Our main goal as a team, is to guide our students into a better understanding of how our actions today have an impact on their relationship with their future spouse.

If you have any questions or would like a copy of our discussion before hand, please do not hesitate to contact me.

NOTE:  The bulletin stated that we will be meeting in the basement – it was a mistake. We are meeting in the JHaF room.

Stories

Thursday, November 03, 2011

Hello, and welcome to November!

First of all, thank you to all who came out for "Trunk of Treat" this year! It was a great success. We had so many people from

the local neighborhood!  Thanks to the Yaf teens and Christian who came out with the chicken suit and really helped to

make the evening fun. Thanks also to the volunteers who helped with the hot cocoa and coffee and treats. Also, thanks

to Greg for the fun hayrides!!

I wanted to let you know about an upcoming space on this new website. We are creating a space for you to share your own

story about how God is moving in your life, in your small group, and so on. Stories are important to the life of a community.

They help us celebrate with one another, and bind us together as one body. So, be on the lookout and start thinking of

 something you'd like to share!

Trunk or Treat

October 31st, 6-7:30pm Fifth Reformed Parking Lot

Looking for a good way to fill those pillow cases this Halloween?

The Eastgate Neighborhood Association is sponsoring their 3rd Trunk or Treat in the parking lot of Fifth Reformed Church. Everyone is welcome. You may either walk by on your regular trick-or-treat route, or you can park your car, open the trunk, and pass out treats.

Show your spirit by donning a costume or dressing up your car.

We hope to see you there!
